4) Managers = the anti-procrastinator
Interim Managers have the habit of working long hours. Not a minute can be wasted. But sometimes when facing a very long to-do list, we can feel overwhelmed and lose motivation. It’s at this moment that we decide to switch to something else, another less demanding activity, thinking, “i’ll come back to it right after”…HUGE MISTAKE! So starts procrastination. In the end, we always need more time, and we push to tomorrow what could already be finished today.
To fight against procrastination, you can sort the different tasks of the day by order of priority, thus ensuring the most important will be done first. This helps you to see step by step the progress of your work, which is a subconscious reward. Start by breaking down the most complicated tasks into short-term achievable goals, which is another trick to fighting against procrastination.
5) Develop your abilities
In this modern economic world, it is impossible to rest simply on your past achievements. Interim Managers know it well, the perpetual acquisition of new skills is a must to remain efficient. Take time to honestly analyze your skills, and see what are the areas where you could personally improve. Need training on new digital tools? Handling a marketing campaign? No matter which area of personal development (stress management, public speaking…etc) you choose to improve upon, the time invested in these training programs will always be beneficial.
The downtime in between missions is conducive to improving yourself. By taking the time to acquire these skills, you will be making a head start on your future. Your will be reinforcing your efficiency. It is your competitive edge that will make the difference between you and your competition.
