The Chief Operating Officers’ responsibilities

The goal set for a Chief Operating Officer is to optimize revenues and margins through the operational implementation of the company’s strategy. This hands-on man or woman occupies a central position in the company. As a member of the management team, the COO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and at the same time verifies with the operational teams that the company’s decisions are properly implemented in the different business units.

Given these expectations, an Interim Operations Manager has many responsibilities. He or she is often considered to be the number two or right-hand man of the Chief Executive Officer.

The Interim Chief Operating Officer’s main activities

The COO’s main activities are:

  • Budgetary management
  • Turnover optimization
  • Margin improvement
  • General expenditure control
  • Team management with the implementation of a training plan
  • Prospecting for new suppliers
  • Improving Customer Service
  • The elaboration of the Business Plan
  • Price negotiation
